Philosophy
Mission Statement
Trinity
Day School’s purpose is to provide the young children in our community a
loving, Christ-centered environment where they may grow, develop, learn
and be equipped for future education.
We
believe in using a child-centered approach to learning with the teacher as
role model and guide. Teachers will be responsible for providing learning
opportunities for his/her age level children and will enable each child to
learn at his/her own pace.
Off to
Great Start
2006-2007 School Year
Trinity
Day School started the year on Tuesday,
September 5. There are approximately 84 children enrolled, with
waiting lists in the 2 and 3 year old classes. The rooms look great,
and the teachers are excited and ready to go.
Please keep the Day School in your prayers. We’ve
been so blessed with all the support from the church, and we’re
looking forward to a great year!

Discipline:
Discipline, if
necessary, will include redirection and a brief explanation. If this proves
ineffective, a short time-out will be used. Teachers do not use corporal
punishment or humiliating or frightening discipline techniques. Food or
beverage is NEVER withheld as a discipline tool.

Snacks and Special
Occasions:
Each class has snack time every day they’re at school.
Trinity Day School will provide all paper products.
Birthdays are
special at Trinity Day School. If you would like to bring a special snack to
celebrate, please make arrangements with your child’s teacher.
*Whenever you are bringing food from home, please be
mindful of other children’s allergies. We do not allow peanuts or peanut
products and would appreciate your checking with your child’s teacher to see
if there are any other particular food restrictions in the class.
Health and Safety:
Children who are too ill to participate in the activities
of the Day School should remain in the comfort of their own home. If, during
the course of the school day, the teacher feels your child is too ill to remain
at school, you will be called to pick up the child.
Your child should
be free of symptoms (i.e. fever, vomiting, diarrhea, thick nasal discharge) for
24 hours before returning to school. A suspicious rash or eye irritation should
be diagnosed by a doctor before bringing your child to school. Cooperation with
this policy will hopefully reduce contagious illnesses within the school.
A current emergency form is kept for each child which
includes vital information. Please keep this form updated as necessary.
Trinity Day School
has a safety plan in place which includes monthly fire drills, periodic
earthquake and tornado drills and a locked door policy. All outside doors to
our buildings will be locked at 9:15. If you need to get in after that time,
you may use the main church entrance on Council Street, call the Day School
office to have someone unlock the door or, in the case of the 3 and 4 year old
classes, knock on the door.

|
Class Parties/
Special Events:
Holiday parties are
held every year for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter
and the End-of –the Year. We also have several special events like Field Day
and the Spring Parade. Sign up sheets to help with parties and events are
available in your child’s classroom.
Clothing:
Children should
wear comfortable clothing to school. We are a creative, active place, so please
keep in mind that the children will be involved in a number of activities that
could be messy. Please label all clothing and outerwear with your child’s name
and send an extra set of clothes (seasonally appropriate) that we can keep at
school in case of accidents. Please make sure your child is dressed
appropriately for the weather, because the students play outside daily. Also be
mindful of your child’s ability to dress and undress him/herself for bathroom
purposes.
 |
Inclement Weather:
In the event of severe weather, we follow the schedule of
Sumter District 17.

Parent Updates,
Conferences and Visits:
All parents will be updated
regularly on the happenings in their child’s classroom. Teachers will send
newsletters to highlight skills or concepts being taught and to share
information about the children. Developmental assessments will be sent home in
January and May to keep parents updated on their children’s progress.
Formal conferences are held in
January for parents of all 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Kindergarten parents will also
conference with the teacher again in May. This is a time for parents and
teachers to discuss progress, any concerns and set goals. Parents of 2 year
olds may request a conference at any time they feel it necessary.
We encourage you to come
visit, but as a safety precaution and to keep class disruptions to a minimum,
please check in at the Day School Office beforehand.

|
Parent Involvement:
Parent involvement is the key to our success, and there
are several ways to get involved:
Volunteers-The
Day School will send a newsletter at the end of every month to keep parents
informed on school-wide happenings. There will always be requests for parents
to volunteer their time and talents with us to make Trinity Day School the best
it can be!
TDS Parent Club:
This committee was formed to honor teachers with special incentives, raise money
for the school and support the program with ideas and suggestions. This year,
each class will have a parent representative on the committee, but all parents
are always welcome to attend the meetings. Meetings are held the first
Wednesday
of every month at 9:00 am.
