Missions Ministry

Missions Committee Chair: Karen Pompeo

Trinity is a very mission minded church.  Annual apportions to the United Methodist Church are always met.  Individual Sunday School Classes, the United Methodist Women, the Missions Commission, and many individuals participate and give regularly.

  Fall Work Weekend for Adults
November 1-4, 2007

The United Methodist Relief Center, in Mt. Pleasant SC, makes long-lasting changes in peoples' lives by repairing and rehabilitating substandard housing as well as providing new housing for very low income families.  Trinity members will join the UMRC this fall by participating in a missions work weekend. The trip will include two full work days (Friday and Saturday from 7:30 am-4 pm) and participants will stay in the UMRC volunteer house which can sleep up to 40 people.

The Mission Commission
Global Missionaries

Connie DeLio is our mission link in the Dominican Republic. In 2007, our church will support this ministry with $8500 in funds.  For several years, Medical Ministries International has been supported by Trinity, both financially and by a medical work team.  In the summer of 2007,  the team spent two weeks in Barahona in the Dominican Republic.

Supported Programs in South Carolina

Trinity youth are very active in the Salkehatchie summer work program - this summer 26 youth and several adults attended the Loris Salkehatchie Camp.  Other supported programs include The Alston Wilkes Society, Johns Island Rural Missions, and an ET (Elderly Transportable) house which was built and is supported by Trinity Members.

Local Missions
Trinity members were leaders in the establishment of two local missions: ( United Ministries and Shepherds Center) and continue support with funding and volunteers.  Trinity has also recently partnered with the Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club of America. The Boys and Girls Club of Sumter opened in the Fall of 2006 in the Trinity Lincoln Center.  Other Sumter County missions are Safe House (for abused women and their children.), Greenhouse (for runaway children) and Habitat for Humanity.
