A Q & A with Beacon!

Many of you are probably wonder what the heck the DOCK is and what it has to do with anything! Beacon, the DOCK’s resident pelican is here to answer some frequently asked questions.

Q: So Beacon, what’s the DOCK and where did it come from?!

A: Well, the DOCK is a fun place for children to gather some Sunday mornings to sing, dance, and most importantly to learn about God. The DOCK came out of many hours of prayer and conversation about children’s ministry at Trinity.

Q: What’s a pelican doing in our sanctuary?

A: My name’s Beacon, and I’ve been at the DOCK for a few weeks now. I like hanging out with all the people who are helping with the DOCK. I don’t know much about God, but I’m hoping to learn along with the kids. The leaders told me that they felt like the sanctuary had much to offer in terms of space, lighting, and most especially, a sound system. I’m in the sanctuary because, well, at least for an hour or so, the sanctuary looks a lot like a real dock.

Q: What does the DOCK stand for?

A: Well, first of all, the DOCK is a place. It’s on the water, is a good fishing spot, and has a big lighthouse nearby. But the DOCK also stands for “Doers of Christ’s Kingdom,” because we hope that after spending time at the DOCK that’s what all our kids will be.

Q: Who is invited to the DOCK?

A: The DOCK is especially for kids ages K3-5th grade. But, we hope that their parents will join us, too, as well as any other adults who want to have a good time! When the kids break off into small groups, parents will have a chance to leave for a coffee break. We also have quite a few youth who are helping out at the DOCK.

Q: Does the DOCK replace Sunday School?

A: Yes and no. The DOCK is a new part of the Sunday School program. Trinity has a really cool rotation Sunday School program that happens each week in the Faith Forest upstairs. Each rotation is 5 weeks long and the kids focus on one Bible theme for those 5 weeks. Now, one week during the rotation, kids will spend time at the DOCK learning more about that rotation’s theme. For example, right now the kids are learning about prayer. So the stories at the DOCK this week have to do with prayer. Next time the kids will be learning about the resurrection stories of Jesus. So at the DOCK, we’ll talk about some guy named Doubting Thomas. I can’t wait to learn about this guy!

Thanks for having me along for this Q & A session. I hope to see you all at the DOCK on Sunday, April 13 at 9:45 and again on May 4 and June 8.
